Masterclass introduction to Oil Painting

This master class is for HIGH SCHOOL students who demonstrate a high level of artistic understanding and a strong desire to advance their skills.

We will begin the term with 2 weeks of coloured pencil rendering and charcoal illustrations. Week 3 will follow with Still Life and understanding the importance of value and contrast which will prepare students for 6 weeks of oil painting. They will learn how to work with colour, light and texture. From colour mixing and layering, to creating depth, atmosphere and beautiful brushwork. Perfect for talented artists who would like to learn how to use oil paints, while continuing to develop their skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Students will finish 2 oil paintings, including a still Life and a self portrait

STUDENTS MUST BRING THEIR OWN MATERIALS TO CLASS

Materials to Bring:

Brushes: An assortment of flat and round, Hog Hair (not synthetic)

Oil Paint: Titanium White, Ivory Black, Bright Red (like Cadmium Red), Bright Yellow (like Cadmium Yellow), Phthalocyanine Blue, Burnt Umber

Other Material: Wooden palette, old rags & paper towels

Canvas: 2 stretched canvases, at least 16x20"
